Fear = False Evidence Appearing Real!
Fear has the potential to parallelize our mind, emotions and body. It can hold us captive and the lies it whispers has the potential to remove all normal rational thinking and even poison our moral code!
This is a heavy article for today and for that I apologise, however, I believe we need to make known the trauma fear carries so that we can start to remove its power from our lives.
How many times have you known you needed to speak up or out and fear has stopped you?
You know you needed to speak YOUR truth or defend another’s yet fear kept your mouth shut!
What about actions?
Have you ever known you needed to do something; get out of bed, help a friend, write that letter, take that step, but fear held you still and inactive?
We give fear so much power over our lives!
BUT – and this is a vital BUT – We can overcome fear!
Some forms of fear are right and good, they prompt us to flee danger or avoid life-threatening pain. I am talking about the fear that consumes our minds and holds us back, imprisoning our lives and keeping us from pursuing our dreams.
Fear is often based on the unknown, our mind fills the gaps and creates a reality that isn’t real and may not even be logical. We fear failure and so avoid change or challenges at all costs, settling for the status quo instead of pushing ourselves to grow and embrace new possibilities.
If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.
Not only does fear capture our mind and emotions but fear damages our health!
An article by Dr Christine Northrup reveals that fear lowers our immunity, it shuts down our gut, short-circuits our brain, can lead to chronic health problems, and fear attracts what we fear the most. You can read the full article here.
When fear wins our lives are either kept in the “familiar/comfortable” phase, never challenging ourselves to grow, settling for what is rather than what could be. Or fear alters the course of our lives, by forcing us to make decisions that we would never make without it, invoking consequences we then must face. When fear wins we not only lose our faith, we lose our hope in the future.
How do we then conquer our fears?
Dr Wayne Dyer wrote, “by remembering that fear is the acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real, we can step past it and become who and what we want to be. The components of anxiety, stress, fear, and anger do not exist independently of you in the world. They simply do not exist in the physical world, even though we talk about them as if they do. Embrace faith and fear will withdraw from our lives.”
“When a resolute young fellow steps up to the great bully, the world, and takes him boldly by the beard, he is often surprised to find it comes off in his hand, and that it was only tied on to scare away the timid adventurers.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” Eleanor Roosevelt
When we stop and look fear in the face we open up a world of possibility and play an active role in choosing to live life to the full. Stop avoiding fear and start to view it as a launching pad to greater things in your life. Stop fighting against it and use it to your advantage, often what we fear is an invitation within ourselves to grow, “feel the fear and do it anyway!”
Moving past your fears may require support from others, and that in itself can be an act of courage to ask for help. Or, using some meditation practices like Tapping, going for walks in nature or using essential oils to help restore peace and calm to our bodies and minds.
Here is a great tapping routine you can use to process and work through fear. You can also use other meditations to restore peace and renew your inner strength, these, when used in conjunction with essential oils, can have a powerful effect on increasing your personal power and limiting the influence fear and negative self-talk has in your life.
